Patterns for Joyful Living Part 1

In many math classes around the world, you can hear kids asking the question “Why do I have to learn this I will never use it in real life?”  I was one of those kids, because I was not a Master of Math. Here I am though 30+ years later writing about joyful living and I am going to relate it to a math formula.  I am sure all my math teachers would be saying “I told you so” if they could read this blog post now. The world is full of patterns…weather patterns, sewing patterns, craft patterns, music patterns, etc. And math has patterns too. One of the patterns I remember learning in class was a multiplication pattern. When you multiple the same two numbers (the factors) you will always get the same answer (the product). Meaning 5×5 will always equal 55, just kidding I know it’s 25. Our lives have patterns too and depending on the factors, a.k.a our thoughts, actions, words, the product can be one of dreadful living or joyful living. For instance do you know someone who is constantly late? That is the product, what we need to do is to look at what factors are causing that result. Maybe it is constantly waking up late and trying to do one more thing before you go out the door. If those factors are continually happening it is not surprising that that person is usually late for stuff. Or take not being a morning person (the product), what factors could be contributing to that? Maybe you stay awake until 12 or 1 am binge...

Are You Resisting or Attracting Joy?

You have probably heard the phrase “what you resist persists.” Let’s look at how this theory affects us when it comes to resisting or attracting joy in our lives. To resist means to remain strong against or to prevent yourself from doing something that you want to do or that you know is good for you. Essentially resistance is being your own worst enemy and the battle ground lies within your mind. When you put your focus on fighting against something you don’t want in your life be that conflict, pain, debt, ill-health or unhappiness, what you are actually putting out into the word is that I want more of this because that is what where my thoughts and energy are going.  You are attracting what you don’t want in life. So how do you change that? Well I am a firm believer in the Law of Attraction and this principle has two sides in order for it to be activated. You must not only desire something, but expect it. As Raymond Holliwell, once wrote, “Desire without expectation is idle wishing or dreaming.” Don’t just dream of living an abundant and joy-filled life, expect it. I would also say act on it. There are two kinds of people in this world the first is the person who stands at the bottom of the mountain complaining that it’s too hard, too far and they will never be able to see anything. The second person starts to hike up the mountain focusing on being grateful they can move their legs, being grateful for the breath in their lungs, being hopeful for...

One Word Legacy

Since 2011 I have been selecting one word that I wanted to see come to fruition in my life. My words over the years have been Hope, Journey, Love, Joy, Be, and Change. These words have shown up in my life in ways I could not have imagined. For example Hope and Journey became the name of the non-profit I started with some friends. Joy became the basis for my first book, my messages and my upcoming ventures. (Stay tuned for more information on those in upcoming posts.) Be was the year I took a leap of faith and started my own business so I could be me. (Plus I met Bradley Cooper that year, which starts with the letter “B”.) Last year my word was Change and I experienced that by getting healthy, by switching my routine so I could be as creative as possible and by shifting my focus from just sharing information to creating transformations. All these words have guided me into becoming the person I am today. Someone who is filled with hope and love, who is learning to find joy in the journey and to just be herself and who knows that the only person I can change in this world is myself.  My word for 2017 is Abundance and I cannot wait to see how that unfolds and overflows in my life. However in 2015 I discovered another word we need to think about and that is our Legacy Word. A Legacy Word goes beyond just what you want to experience or see happen in a given year, it is the essence of...

Just Keep Moving: How to Reach Your Dreams

She was curly haired, bright eyed and her smile grew even bigger as her Grandma pulled out a toy car for her to play with. Her Grandma turned the car on, set it on the ground and then it zoomed away. This little bubbly two year old toddler got off the floor and began to wobble after it. She would get close to the car, bend down to reach it and all of a sudden the car would move ahead out of her reach.  She did this several times bending down with determination, but then having the car move on her so she couldn’t complete what she started. Have you ever felt like that? You have a goal or a dream in mind and you are excited as it takes off, but then you start pursuing it and each time you think you are getting close to having it within your grasp you receive a setback and it  feels like it moved a little bit farther out of your reach? I know I definitely have felt that at times. One of my mentors told me that “if your dream is easy to reach, you are not dreaming big enough.” So I have set big goals for my life which means they typically push me outside my comfort zone or require me to take a leap of faith.  There are times I want to give up, but instead I have learned to push through because you can’t have a breakthrough until you’ve been through.  If you ever read the book, “Three Feet From Gold” it reminds us that when we...

7-D Transformational Morning: Dance, Doodle & Drink

“I got this feeling inside my bones, it goes electric, wavey when I turn it on. All through my city, all through my home, we’re flying up, no ceiling, when we in our zone. I got that sunshine in my pocket, got that good soul in my feet. I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops. I can’t take my eyes up off it, moving so phenomenally. Room on lock, the way we rock it, so don’t stop.” When those lyrics start to flood into my ears, I can’t help but move my body and start to get into a groove and DANCE, which is our fifth key to creating a transformational morning. Something amazing happens when we get our heart rates up and our blood and oxygen flowing by moving, we enhance our mental clarity and are able to sustain higher levels of energy throughout the day.  And who doesn’t want that? I know that when I am more focused and energized as I go about my day it allows me to be even more fruitful and productive. Now you don’t have to actually dance to get this benefit, the true key is to do what I call multi-muscle movement, which means that you move more than one muscle at a time to maximize your workout and calorie burn. For example, if you are walking don’t just walk, lift weights with your arms at the same time. The great thing about movement is you can do it anywhere the gym, your home, your office, the park, etc. and you can move the way that works...
